Hey all!

Please let me introduce myself. My name is Maarten from Utrecht, the Netherlands. Glad to see that there’s a place on the internet with like-minded people on the subject.

I’ve been reading into minimalism for a while now and I came to the conclusion that this is a path I really want to follow.

Growing up I learned to keep and buy stuff, because ‘you never know when you need it again’. Then, about 4-5 years ago, I started living on my own. Started earning money, filling my room with new stuff. Moved to a bigger place. Filled it again. And again, and again. At this point it is just pure chaos. Not that my house looks like a dumpster, I just don’t have the control anymore. No sense of direction in short term and long term ‘goals’ (-what am I going to do today, going back studying or career stuff etc). It just feels so… stupid. And unnecessary. A waste of materials, I don’t even use most of what I own. All the space it takes up in your mind and living space…

So! Now what. I’m slowly starting to remove useless stuff out of my life and finding the essentials. Brought some books to a local public mini library, sold some electronics online. Moving away from social media, but entered this forum. It would be really nice to talk to people who just started this same journey too, and also talk to people who are doing this a little longer already. I look forward to sharing bits of my story and reading yours!

I'm still reading into all topics of minimalism, let me know if you have some great starters (food maybe?)!

M

Thanks for the Intro!

Utrecht is a beautiful city, too rainy tho!

Yeah just live with only the stuff you need, then spend time outside when you have free time.

Food, it depends on you, if you need a lot of food eat a lot, otherwise reduce it as well. I eat 5-6 times a day!

@minimalistboy

Thanks! Luckily the sun comes out every now and then too 🙂

Spending time outside sounds nice. Maybe I'll do some hiking.

I'll write something on the food topic soon!
